I have studied Computer Science at a university in Germany. Though this subject is rather geeky, I’m not the typical IT stereotype. Yes, I like technical details, algorithms and data. But at the same time, I am outgoing, open, communicative and you could find me on every student party back in the days.

At the end of my university time, I had already started my own business. My first project in software development was for a client, helping them to modernize their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) application. It was a product which they sold to their clients. With two other friends I started this project. I was working day and night as well as weekends on this project. The worst thing was that we did not get paid. The client was never satisfied, he often changed his mind about requirements and would always find some flaw to justify for not paying us the money. Mostly he took advantage of a few youngsters who were technically very skilled but inexperienced to run a business. When the client finally paid off some of our invoices, one of the friends ran off with the money. Me and the other friend did not get any of it. Bottom line, I was working crazy hours on this project for more than one year and did not even have enough money to pay for my living. Thankfully my mum has supported me a lot during that time.

After this tough (and admittingly rough) first experience as an entrepreneur, I have moved my career as a software engineer into the corporate world like most of us do. However, I don’t feel regretful about my experience. Whatever happens in life, there is always some valuable, positive insight which you can take away and which helps you develop further (#continuousimprovement again).

So I continued working in the corporate world in different enterprises. And still, I was always seeking for a way to earn more money on the side, which would help me finance my dreams and reach financial freedom. Tim Ferriss’ book “The 4-Hour Work Week” has inspired me a lot. The “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” concept by Robert Kiyosaki made me realize the real difference between assets and liabilities, which many people get wrong.

Over the years, I have earned money with crypto-currencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum (mining as well as trading), and I have worked on software for automated currency trading (FX Trading). My first exposure to affiliate marketing was when I worked on a project called Link-O-Mat together with some friends. It is a cashback tool which allows a customer to be paid back a percentage of the amount he spent on buying an item on the Internet, based on affiliate marketing. We basically share the commission with our users.

A good part of the money I have earned on the side through my passive income streams, I have invested in securities like stocks, funds, Exchange Traded Funds (ETF) and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REIT). 

One night while watching productivity hacks on Youtube, I discovered four Australian friends: Chris, Gerard, Merr and Sandrine.
